English for Specific Purposes
Quality control in ESP and EAP

We are delighted to announce our pre-conference event for the IATEFL Conference in Liverpool on 1 April 2019. The theme of our preconference event this year will be to explore Quality Assurance in ESP and EAP - academic and occupational perspectives.
Some of the core themes and questions we will explore are:
  • Quality and accreditation in ESP and EAP
  • Implications and challenges of setting standards in ESP and EAP
  • Does accreditation ensure quality?
  • International versus local accreditation schemes in ESP and EAP
For this year’s PCE in Liverpool, we will be partnering with EAQUALS (www.eaquals.org) – and BALEAP (www.baleap.org) - an exciting opportunity for us to foster a link between the field of ESP/EAP and quality assurance.

In the first half of the day, we will have plenary speakers and panellists. Then, in the second half we want to give all delegates the chance to explore and discuss issues and challenges surrounding quality in ESP and EAP through breakout groups and mini presentations (posters & laptop presentations). Finally, we will bring the day to a close with reflections from the day.

Our confirmed speakers so far are
Tony Prince, NILE, ‘The EAQUALS Academic Purposes Framework project‘
Conrad Heyns, BALEAP ‘Accreditation Occupation’
Maxine Gillway, Chair BALEAP ‘The challenge of terminology and beliefs in EAP QA: Do you see what I see?‘
Milena Tanasijevic, ESP scholarship winner ‘Quality Assurance in ESP curriculum development in HE institutions‘

We are currently finalising the selection process of other proposals and will share the programme soon. Join us in Liverpool…
