Our Environmental Commitment

We are always looking for ways to ensure that our conference has as little impact on the environment as possible. Here is how we will be doing this in Liverpool:
What IATEFL is doing   What the venue is doing

Free reusable cups will be given to all delegates on arrival. They can be used for hot or cold drinks, including the free hot drinks available in the exhibition.

Delegates can chose to use the Conference App and Guide for App Users as a way to gain all the information available in the Conference Programme whilst using less paper.

The Conference Programme and Guide for App Users are printed on forestry approved paper using natural (as opposed to synthetic) inks.

Recycle bins for Conference Programmes, Guides for App Users and delegate badges, as well as normal ones for plastic, paper etc. will be placed in convenient locations around the venue.

Speakers will be encouraged to share their PowerPoint presentations online on SlideShare to save paper and printing.

Starting in Brighton we now use a new kind of conference badge that requires no plastic wallet holder.

The pens used at the Registration Desk are made using recycled paper instead of plastic.

We are bringing back our Book Swap for the second year in a row – bring books you’ve read and swap for something you haven’t.

The ACC Liverpool has its own Environmental Task Force dedicated to minimising the effects of their business on the environment.

The ACC Liverpool has achieved 'Zero to Landfill' status as all its waste is recycled or burnt to create fuel for the venue.

Part of the ACC's power supply is also created by five low-noise wind turbines.

Rainwater is collected on the roof of the building and is then used to flush the toilets. Rainwater accounts for around 40% of the water used for flushing toilets within the venue.

Lighting within the ACC is highly efficient and controlled by motion sensors, ensuring a room is dark unless someone is in it.

The venue was awarded ISO 20121 in 2014, in recognition of the sustainability of its events.

Other green awards include Gold Standard in the Green Business Tourism Scheme, Healthy Stadia accreditation and a Green Apple award for the building.
